In winter of 2020, we will begin offering certificates of study. Our first three certificates will be a Certificate in Catechesis; a Certificate in Biblical Studies; and a Certificate in Catholic Theology. These are not full degree programs. They are shorter, condensed courses that give students a strong background in each subject. They are the equivalent to a Diocesan Certificate in each subject area. Instead of paying per course, you pay for the certificate and take the courses at your leisure. When you complete the coursework, there is a final paper and exam to ensure that you have mastered the material. When you graduate, you receive the certificate to demonstrate your competency in each field of study.
Certificates of Study are not as intensive or lengthy as regular courses and the homework is very minimal, designed to teach you how to continue your exploration of the subject on your own. Because of this, the cost of a Certificate Series of Courses is less than if you were to take each individual course at a higher level of study.
However, these certificate courses are an excellent investment. They have become a common means of learning a subject quickly, without the expense and time commitment of an actual degree program. They are perfect for those who have always wanted to learn these subject areas in greater depth or for those who would like to apply for jobs at churches or other religious institutions. Certificates of Study are a boost to resumes as they demonstrate a passion for learning. They are also a wonderful way to gain an appreciation for the beauty and depth of the Catholic Faith.
