Degree Programs

HTS currently has 3 degree programs: a Bachelor's in Theology (B.Th.); a Master of Divinity (M.Div.); and a Master's in Theological Studies (M.A.T.S.). All three programs allow students to concentrate in an area of their choosing within the fields of theology, scripture, pastoral studies, or the church in the world sphere.

For example, someone receiving an M.Div. may choose to get a general theological education or they may tailor their program for a career in counseling or chaplaincy by focusing on Pastoral Care courses. They may choose to focus on administration and liturgy in preparation for parish ministry. A student seeking an M.A.T.S. degree may focus on a general theological curriculum or they may begin to research the field in which they will ultimately seek a doctoral degree.

If a student wishes to embark in an area of specialized study, HTS will assist them in crafting a self-study program. We also accept credits from other theological schools so that a student can "specialize out", taking courses with experts in their field at other schools. Our goal is to be as flexible as possible to give students the greatest chance of success.

Below are the standard requirements for each degree program.

What is the AAOCC?

The American Apostolic Old Catholic Church is an Independent Catholic Jurisdiction not bound by the legal and jurisdictional authority of the Roman Pope, possessing valid sacraments, a valid priesthood, and a valid Eucharist. Because we are not bound by the legal pronouncements of Rome, we are free to include a female priesthood, married priesthood, and the full inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community to all seven scriptural sacraments, including marriage and Holy Orders. We are theologically orthodox and liturgically conservative while maintaining an open and inclusive membership. Our website is: www.americanoldcatholic.org.
