SC535: Gender, Sexuality, and Misogyny in the Bible
This exciting and highly relevant elective course explores the concepts of gender and sexuality as presented throughout the Bible. Particular focus is given to the role and treatment of women as the course proceeds chronologically through salvation history as presented in both the Old and New Testaments beginning with Adam and Eve and ending with the role of the Virgin Mary. Presented as both heroines and victims, the women of the bible have much to reveal about these historic concepts of gender and gender roles and, as such, they give us insight into the relationship between men, women, and gender power. We will also explore the concepts of sexuality and marriage as we move through these dramatic narratives which cut to the heart of human nature. Instructor: Bishop Jeffrey Montoya, Ph.D.
